A meaningful hymn is a great way to start the day and often the tune and words will stick in one’s head the whole day for continuing encouragement.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

One thing impressed me as I assembled this list of mostly traditional Christian hymns; God has a very large tent. I have been encouraged in my search to find the Lord’s people singing many of the same songs wherever they reside; this is the Church universal, our brothers and sisters. I have come to value them as never before.

"And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation."

From places like the US to Scotland (July 26) to Russia (Jan 14), to Ghana (Dec 29), to India (Mar 6); from cathedrals (Jan 1), to living rooms (Jan 10), to a working man’s basement (Dec 29), the Lord’s people cannot resist the passion of singing praise to God whether it be by acapella chorus (Sept 8), a church congregation (Apr. 12), men’s church choir (Mar 17), quartet (Jan 27), sacred harp (Apr 4), or solo (Jun 21). One of my favorites is the young gung-ho marines (Oct 2)

I hope this app is a blessing and encouragement. Briefly, my criteria for hymn selection, whenever possible, have been: acapella singing, lyrics on the page, groups from other countries when possible and traditional hymns, "old favorites."
